Sunshine & Coffee

and sometimes not enough of either

Welcome!

A warm hello to you, Reader. I’d like to welcome you to my blog. It’s a new endeavor, and mainly exists because I’m too chicken to officially publish any of my writing yet but I wanted to share some of it with the world. Here you’ll find writings of all kinds: food writing, creative nonfiction essays, and short stories. Depending on how I feel I may also include some photos. I’m not sure yet about that part. I’m hoping you enjoy this as much as I (presumably) will.

A little update on myself, if you know me personally: My thesis was accepted by my thesis director and thesis reader. I passed, and I received an A on my thesis, so although I was already participating in Commencement on May 12, I now know that I am officially graduating with my Master’s in English, creative writing focus. I’m super excited about it. I think I’m excited for a few reasons. First, I’ve wanted a degree in Creative Writing since high school. Second, I feel like I’ve truly grown as a writer because of this program. Third, I’ll finally be finished with school! I’ve been in school since I was six years old, with only one break between the summer of 2019 and January of 2021. I feel like with school behind me, I will be able to focus on writing for pleasure and as a creative outlet rather than fulfilling assignments or earning a grade.

That’s why I want to share it with the world, now. I want to be able to work on a piece and have the people I love (and some who I don’t even know!) read it. I don’t know how often I’ll post. I want to revise each piece as though it were going for publication before I post it here, so I’m aiming for once a month for actual pieces and once a week for blog posts themselves.

I’m so glad you’re on this journey with me.

Much love,

Kathryn

About Me

I’m a cook, a baker, a server, a wife, a daughter, a friend, and a writer. I just finished my second Master’s degree, in Creative Writing, last year, and I wanted to share my writings with the world. My passions are flowers, botanical prints, cheesecake, blackberries, good food, and good writing. I’m from Upstate New York and have a Gordon Setter named Molly and two cats, Minnie and Osiris. Don’t come over. The house isn’t clean.
